Carmen Rangel is an Austin-based visual artist and community organizer known for her vibrant painted and mosaic murals. Her work often explores environmentalism, cultural identity, diversity, and the connection between people and the natural world. She is also the co-founder of The Mosaic Workshop, which creates large-scale community mosaics and makes mosaic art accessible to people of all ages.
For TerraTx, Carmen is creating an earth-and-art mosaic inspired by the native plants and pollinators of the Frio Canyon. She has been paired with local experts Adrian and Jeri Sepulveda, whose knowledge of the area’s native plants and ecosystems is helping inspire the design. The finished artwork will celebrate the small but essential relationships that help the landscape thrive.
